Instructional methodology

A blend of individually-paced study materials and learning assignments for preparation and reinforcement and live facilitated, interactive sessions in the virtual classroom.

Prerequisites

•None other than a general understanding of the business or IT environment.
•Each module serves as the prerequisite for the next and all are designed to be completed in order, with the same group of participants.
•All modules include pre-course work consisting of self-study reading and assignments, and an interactive, live, virtual classroom session, i.e. webinar.

Course Content

Module 1: Overview of Business Analysis

This module will provide the introduction to the course, instructor and participants. It will focus on providing participants an overview of the principles and themes of Business Analysis and introduce them to the Business Analysis Process Model.

Learning objectives:

•Understand the value of Business Analysis to business success
•Be aware of the origins of Business Analysis, the scope of Business Analysis work, and the role and responsibilities of a Business Analyst
•Describe the Business Analysis Process Model
 

Module 2: Strategy Analysis and Investigation Techniques

This module will introduce the context of strategy development and show how business analysis work aligns with business strategy and objectives.

Learning objectives:

•Know how strategy can be developed
•Identify the use of multiple environment analysis techniques
•Know the issues to be considered when implementing strategy
•Describe the techniques used to investigate the situation
•Describe ways to document the business situation
 

Module 3: Stakeholder Analysis and Modelling Business Systems

This module will review how to approach stakeholder analysis and management and the different perspectives of business systems modelling.

Learning objectives:

•Identify and analyse stakeholders, relative to their power and interest in a business change project
•Know the types of stakeholder management strategies
•Understand how different perspectives impact the modelling of business systems
•Be able to produce a model of the business system
 

Module 4: Modelling Business Processes and Making the Case

This module will introduce the organisational view of the business process and ways to develop a business process model in organisations. It will also cover how to make a business and financial case for a project.

•Understand how the business process view differs from the functional orientation in organisations
•Know the components of a value chain
•Analyse a business process model
•Understand how the business case helps to assess project feasibility
•Know the structure of a business case
 

Module 5: Managing Requirements

This module will introduce the process for gathering requirements and how to use system data and functions to model requirements.

Learning objectives:

•Understand the importance of correctly eliciting business and user requirements
•Know the process to elicit, analyse, validate and document requirements
•Understand the elements of requirements management
 

Module 6: Implementing Change and Preparing for Your Exam

This module will review the kinds of delivery approaches that are used. It will also present key considerations when implementing business change. Lastly, it will provide a final opportunity to prepare to take the exam.

•Understand the differences between delivery approaches
•Understand how people respond to change and how to create an environment for change
